A work, in which a number of contributions, constituting separate independent works are assembled into a work such as a periodical issue, anthology or Encyclopedia. To create a collective work, permission must be obtained from the copyright owners of the separate parts. The author of the collective work may not own the copyright to any of the individual parts, but the authorship of selecting the individual materials and arranging all the parts into one work is protected by copyright law.
